Miserable Failure: The Home Edition
Dean Barnett, one of the few men in America dumb enough to play second banana to Hugh Hewitt, has found himself a home at Bill Kristol's Weekly Standard, also known as the Ruppert Murdoch Home for Boys Who Are Always Fucking Wrong. I'm guessing that somehow Kristol came across Barnett's brilliant 2006 election prediction and was so dazzled that he offered Barnett a two-year deal and a corner office.
Today, Barnett explains why the Conservatives have no Daily Kos of their own:
So what of the conservative blogosphere? Some online righties are trying to rechristen the conservative blogosphere "the RightRoots," but a name change won't alter the conservative blogosphere's basic composition or aims. Scott Johnson is one-third of the trio of wizened lawyers that runs the Power Line blog, one of the conservative blogosphere's most popular and respected sites. When I asked him why conservative blogs don't do the same thing as the Netroots, Johnson responded, "None of us purports to lead a movement, and we're working for a living."
Johnson, as usual, is 100 percent correct. Most prominent conservative bloggers are middle-aged. None has shown any interest in developing a political movement. There are younger conservative bloggers who share Moulitsas's ambition, but none of them has amassed a fraction of his audience. The reason for his, Barnett points out, is because:
...the most prominent outposts of the right-wing blogosphere stick to punditry. Which may be true, but it's not for lack of trying to break out of the citizen journalist punditocracy ghetto. Had Dean really been interested in answering the question of why there is no Conservative Kos he might have taken a look at the failure of our good friend the Victory Caucus, launched with great fanfare back in February 2007, whose mission was, and remains:
- Deliver the perspectives and news on the war effort which the mainstream media neglects to help the American public understand the nature of our conflict and its true progress
- Provide tools and infrastructure to help citizens who are committed to victory organize into a recognized and influential caucus
- Identify opportunities for the caucus to act and exert influence on America’s leaders and to directly aid and support the men and women of our military
Unfortunately, while the conservative masses heard the call, it sounded like too much work and then that trick knee that kept them from fighting in the Global War on Terror migrated north and became carpal tunnel syndrome and...well, let's just say that volunteerism isn't exactly hardwired into the couch-bound.
Instead of emailing Scott Johnson from Power Line to find out why conservative bloggers are such slackers, Dean Barnett should have contacted me. I could have provided him with this list of the Board of Governors of the Victory Caucus to contact:
