Duplication of Labor: It's What Makes America Great.
According to either Josh Bolton, Karen Hughes, or Jerry the White House Spin Monkey, George Bush pulled an all-nighter (fat chance) studying The Mysterious Case of Convicted Felon "Scooter" Libby:
Before commuting the prison sentence of I. Lewis Libby Jr., President Bush and a small circle of advisers delved deeply into the evidence in the case, debating Mr. Libby’s guilt or innocence and whether he had in fact lied to investigators, people familiar with the deliberations said.
That process, in weeks of closely held White House discussions, led to the decision to spare Mr. Libby from a 30-month sentence rather than grant a pardon. But Mr. Bush, defending the move Tuesday, left the door open to a pardon in the future. Interesting.
Since today is the Fourth of July, I think a civics lesson is in order because Independence Day isn't just about getting drunk and handling explosives. Here in America, we have a system of "justice" that includes (but is not limited to) grand juries, prosecutors, judges, and even a jury of peers whose job it is to "delve deeply into the evidence in the case, debating Mr. Libby’s guilt or innocence". Up until the Rodney King trial, or maybe it was the OJ trial, this system was working fairly well. But somewhere on the road to Freedom Marching Forward, America lost its way and nobody wants to ask for directions, and now we have outsourced our legal decisions to those wonderful folks who thought that invading Iraq would be a cakewalk.
I say we return it to the torch and pitchfork mob where it rightfully belongs.
Just as soon as they're done blowing up Bud Lite cans with M-80's.
That's okay. We'll wait....
