Neglected
I've been in the midst of a huge project this week spending hours with technical people, on the phone with the good people at SBC who managed to get every single thing wrong, a software company that sent out a purchased upgrade with about 30% of the documentation, and a hardware company whose idea of passing along bad news is to not pass it along until you're screwed and can't do a thing about it.
Sixty-five hours of this in the past week have made me into a bad blogger and also one who is too tired to even comprehend what the hell the LA Times was thinking when they hired Jonah Goldberg as a columnist.
I'm sure they have their reasons: some sort of Doughy Pantload Affirmative Action Program but, in a time when newspapers are cutting back on personnel, does it make any sense to hire someone who need a private editor 24/7?
Oh wait. Maybe this is it:
"I think we've put together a smart, original and provocative team of writers who reflect a variety of interesting and thoughtful perspectives on local, national and foreign affairs," said Times Op-Ed Editor Nicholas Goldberg. "A good column involves a relationship developed with readers over time, and I invite our readers to develop their relationships with these engaging minds in the weeks and months to come.
"I don't think these changes are going to move the page to the left or the right."
Usually when they move the bar it's up or down, not left to right.
I'm not a journalist, in much the same way that Jonah isn't much of a thinker, but I'm going to try and get in touch with some people at the LA Pantload and see how they explain this away.
I'll let you know what I find out.
Either way, we should be back to regular blogging next week. Unless everything turns to shit again.
