Why does George Will hate America George Bush?
Everyone will be talking about George Will's evisceration of Bush's choice of Harriet Miers, but attention should be paid to one very telling passage in tomorrow's column:
The president's "argument" for her amounts to: Trust me. There is no reason to, for several reasons.
He has neither the inclination nor the ability to make sophisticated judgments about competing approaches to construing the Constitution. Few presidents acquire such abilities in the course of their pre-presidential careers, and this president particularly is not disposed to such reflections.
In short, Will is admitting what he has danced around for the past five years: Bush is a lightweight. One can only imagine the depths of despair that Will has been living with, having to constantly defend a man who he obviously regards as a privileged bumpkin.
I think that Miers selection has finally pushed both Georges over the edge and as they spiral towards the onrushing ground we await the inevitable splat...and what a lovely sound that will be.
