Regarding the matter of Lt. Smash.
Yesterday I wrote about the open letter that the star struck Lt. Smash wrote to his president.
I want to clarify a few points.
I, along with a lot of people in this country, never wanted Lt. Smash to go to Iraq. In fact, had the Administration not lied about our reasons for invading Iraq, it is doubtful that President Shifting Rationale would have got Congress to go along with him. In his State of the Union Address he listed off all of the WMDs that he claimed existed in Iraq: 25,000 liters of anthrax , 38,000 liters of botulinum toxin, 500 tons of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agent, 30,000 munitions capable of delivering chemical agents. He lied about British Intelligence reports that stated that Hussein had attempted to purchase uranium out of Africa. He lied about the aluminum tubes..... again. These are only a few of his lies. The President lied for two reasons: to gain control of the oil in Iraq and to improve his standing within the US due to his lackluster domestic performance. It's really that simple.
If the Lt. Smashs are happy to follow this man into war, then that's their right. I commend them for their sense of duty. But, by invading a sovereign nation against the wishes of the world and under false pretenses, they have not made this country a safer place. They have not made their families safer and they have not made my family safer. So, when people tell me that they are protecting my freedom, I have to reply: not this time.
You'll excuse me if I don't say thanks.
...and all the quotes from Dwight Eisenhower, Winston Churchill, and Mallard Fillmore aren't going to change that.
